Many thanks for what you are doing on this site. I have long sought English translations of Weishaupt’s writings, and was lamenting their non-existence about a month ago to a group of Masonic researchers. Found your blog and this site quite by accident, and am looking forward to your new book.

I was originally planning on having more translated and posted by now, but alas the preparation for the book release has taking much of my time.

I actually saw that post you did (on their non-existence), by accident, and was trying to find it again, with no luck. I would have dropped by the site and announced the project.

It is my sincere hope that when you publish this work you make every possible effort source and document everything.

The whole of Illuminati is littered with incredibly poor scholarship with the worst example being authors quoting each other and never going to an original source or document. If you can PHOTOCOPY every source document.

It is time we separate the the historians from the paranoid conspiracy theorists.

It is a dead serious scholarly work with way over 1,000 endnotes, referencing the original documents themselves and the world’s foremost academic experts on the subject from the last 200 years. Only the facts; the research that the English speaking world have been oblivious. There are history professors in Germany and France who have gotten their PhDs from dissertations on the Bavarian Illuminati! Over there it is a respectable field - as is the entire topic of secret societies during the Enlightenment.

Franz Xaver Carl Wolfgang Zwack zu Holzhausen (1756 Regensburg, Germany – 1843 Mannheim, Germany)

Sometimes it was spelled Zwackh. He was the right-hand man of Weishaupt. He studied law at the University of Ingolstadt (1774-76), and was a Weishaupt’s pupil. He became a lawyer, a tax collector, was on the Bavarian privy council in Munich, was the head of the lotto for a time, and was even on the censorship council.

In fact, the “Original Writings” on this very page (for which I am continuing to translate), were discovered in his home in Landshut in 1786; as it says on the title page itself: “FOUND AT THE RESIDENCE OF ZWACK, FORMER COURT COUNCILLOR, DURING THE DOMICILIARY SEARCH EXECUTED AT LANDSHUT, ON THE 11TH AND 12TH OF OCTOBER 1786″

He escaped in time before being arrested, and immediately found refuge at the court of Prince Frederic III
von Salm-Kyrburg (1745-1794). After the Bavarian Elector died, he was employed in the Bavarian government once again.

His brother was also an initiate of the Illuminati: Philipp Simon von Zwack [Zwackh] (1766 – 1839).

I do not profess to know the entire history of the Illuminati. However, as a teacher of logic and rhetoric as they are applied (or disregarded, as the case may be) in legal argument and, subsequently, in the rules of law that follow, I am fascinated by topics like the Illuminati because these types of subjects frequently reveal just how flawed and potentially misleading information can be, even if the inaccuracy is not intentional.

With that preface in mind, here’s my questions/concerns about how you are presenting these so-called “original” documents:

Assuming that you have translated these papers accurately with the goal of 100 % truth in your substantive content, will you fully explain to your readers what these translations supposedly reveal about the Illuminati? And, furthermore, why these revelations are so dangerous to our society today?

To most people in the world, this topic is not well known. Like a specious argument, however, it has a provocative quality partly because of the secret society angle. I think writers have an obligation to provide their readers with sufficient historical background and context so that the translations will be clear and unequivocal in light of the circumstances that were existing at the time. If you do not provide that information, then your readers are receiving information that is only half-transparent and equally secretive. In many instances this result is more dangerous than if the documents had never been translated in the first place.

See the about page for starters. But there’s 800+ pages yet to go, and the revelations will become increasingly noteworthy, and self explanatory. The “Original Writings” are the correspondences confiscated by the Bavarian authorities in 1786 and 1787. They are authentic proof of conspiratorial activities on the part of the secret society: directives and recommendations to underlings, and admission of subversion by the Order as whole. They have never been entirely translated into English from start to finish. Excerpts have been reproduced throughout the years, but that is all.

Any one can play act. That is what Masonry is, isn’t it? Since the early 1700s Masons and other secret societies have constructed various myths about themselves solely to entice and initiate adherents. They can claim all sorts of things and dupe many otherwise intelligent people, but most of it does not stand up to historical scrutiny.

As for people claiming descent from the Illuminati, I would say that if they had an owl as their symbol (or the most prominent of their symbols), then I’d seriously take a look at their claims. The owl of Minerva was part of the seal of the Illuminati, and their Minerval Academies were the backbone and very reason for the Order’s existence.

I don’t believe Illuminati claimants are any more authentic than, say, the various groups out there claiming descent from the Knights Templar. In the former case, there is no proof that they survived in any tangible way past the 1790s; in the latter, there’s no evidence they continued after the 14th century.

It’s one thing to claim lineage (directed toward those to whom you want to initiate), but it’s another altogether to be able to prove such assertions.

These Illuminati claimants, what to they offer as forensic documentary evidence? Bring it on - I’d be willing to take a look if they have any.

I have spoken to a friend of mine who claims that she has received letters from the Illuminati wanting her to join them. She has just been accepted into Holloway college in Surrey she is about 40 and thinks it might be a joke, but she says that they are watching her and also intimate details they have on her. Is there any advice I can give her please.

Have you found anything in your translations about contingency plans for the continuation of the order in the event of the illuminati being exposed?

The takeover of Reading Societies and Masonic Lodges allowed the Illuminati to continue even after the suppression of 1784-87. One can therefore trace their continued activities in these associations as well as the more revolutionary societies such as the Jacobin Clubs. This is largely what my book has documented.

More translations coming soon. There are many instances in the Original Writings where Weishaupt in particular promises to continue the enterprise in the face of persecution, even to the point of emerging more stronger than before.

Hey there, i was wondering if you have any knowledge of Adam Weishaupt founding or funding the founding of any of the central banks of europe?

Weishaupt was a professor, a philosopher, and a dreamer; not a banker, a financier nor particularly adept with money. Weishaupt did not found or fund any bank, “central” or otherwise.

Every society, secret or otherwise, has a charter or list of stated goals and objectives, what were the illuminaties?

That would be William Guy Carr’s fantasy land. He made it up all by himself, wrote it in a book, offered no proof or citation, and let his gullible readership lap it up and further disseminate it (without first checking if it’s true or not). The Rothschilds are not on any of the multiple lists - I’ve looked - nor would you expect them to be.

The patriarch at the time was (nearly) an illiterate Jew. He lived in the ghetto. The only “pull” Amschel had in the 1770s was being able to claim association with William of Hesse-Kassel by selling the latter some rare medals; even in the 1780s, he was still stuck in the Jewish ghetto of Frankfurt and had only managed to establish himself as an antique, coin and medal dealer. Weishaupt, by contrast, was a professional academic, a professor and an aspiring philosopher - as “bourgeois” as they come. You would never expect the two to even cross paths, let alone associate with one another. (And, no, Weishaupt was not a Jew.)

The only reason Carr had made up that stuff about Rothschild and Weishaupt, was a desire to link two of the most famous targets of conspiracy theorists - the Illuminati and the Rothschilds. The anti-Caholic bigots, too, try their hardest to conflate the Jesuits with the Illuminati. To the monolithic conspiracy theorist (one conspiracy to rule them all), everything has to be neat and tidy. Most times they are not even versed in real history, and are totally ignorant of standard and specialized works. What they lack in knowledge, however, hardly dissuades them. The holes are filled in with rhetoric and fabrications - and damn be the sanctity of the actual historical record!

A historian could care less about what the facts bear out, just as long as they are followed and reported on accurately (with precise citations) and without prejudice. If Rothschild had any connection whatsoever with Weishaupt - communicated with, or financed and enabled - it would have been admitted and transparently written about long ago. We wouldn’t need a Carr, for instance, to fabricate the connection for us. Even if you believe somehow that established historians routinely suppress certain unpalatable information, the primary material can still be consulted by anyone - Rothschild is nowhere to be found.

Years ago, I started looking for info on what might really be going on behind the scenes in the world. Of course, I read many conspiracies of the NWO and the Illuminati. But your site was one of the few that kept to the facts and made your personal beliefs evident. I thank you for shining the torch of truth in this world of darkness.

Stauffer wrote a hundred years ago, and, in truth, only one chapter was wholly devoted to the history of the Order in Bavaria. A lot of work was carried on in the interim, mostly in Europe. A monograph on the Illuminati - in the English language, and sticking to the facts - was thus long overdue.

What about Giusseppe Mazini, his protege Albert Pike, the Young America lodges Mazini set up which morphed into the Knights of the Golden Circle of which John Wilkes Booth was a member. Didn’t Giuseppe Mazini take over from good old Spartacus Weishaupt?

There was no Illuminati connection to the Mazzini whatsoever. The Illuminati proper went defunct in the 1790s. Perhaps Filipo Buonarroti had a direct link, but not his rival Mazzini.

That Mazzini “took over the Illuminati” is wishful propaganda on the part of monolithic conspiracy theorists. Repeated again and again, just because it sounds cool!
