* *
The present collection has been published by the Supreme order of His Highness the Elector in order to convince the public of this and foreign countries of the undoubted falsity of the reasons given for the ceaseless outcry from the Illuminati against the injustice, violence, and prosecution to which they are subjected in Bavaria, and also at the same time to put them on their guard against this epidemic sect, and against all other such illegal and clandestine societies. For these merely set themselves to deceive credulous people and get money out of them, and in place of spreading the truth and morality, as they profess to do, absolutely ruin the latter and suppress or completely falsify the former.
[V°]
If anyone doubts the authenticity of this collection, let them present themselves at the secret Archives of this town, where orders have been given to show the originals.
Munich, March 26, 1787.

Particular items found prior to the visit at the residence of Zwack
1. Proposition with a view toward the establishment of a female Order
(From the hand of Zwack)
Object and Purpose of this Order
The practicality of promoting the woman
[p. 6]
would be to procure a real Order of gold; that is to say, in an advantageous manner, we provide protection and wait for them to obtain new secrets, all the while providing voluptuous pleasure for the Freemasons.
2. Establishment of an Order for woman
(From the hand of Zwack)
This Order must consist of two classes, each of which constituting a separate Society, considering its own obligations (nexus), and remaining unknown to the other: a class of the virtuous; the other of debauchery.
Both classes must be unaware that they are directed by the men, and the Superiors of each class must believe there is a higher Lodge from which they receive their orders; though in reality it will be the men who have given it to them.
The two classes should assist in the means of pedagogy as competently as the male Masters proposed to these ends—who happen to be members of the Order, but would remain ignorant of each other as well as to the woman. Proper books would also be provided, and the second class would in secret give satisfaction to its passions.
(At the time of the search at Zwack’s residence, we found two sheets in 8vo (bearing):
[p. 7]
Short character drafts
of 95 woman in Mannheim
in the French language and with this description:
Portraits Des Demoiselles à Mannheim
3. Progress
a) the Brethren at Athens [Munich], in the system of the Order.
(From the hand of Zwack)
Here, for Greece [Bavaria] alone, its distribution:
In Athens, there is: an assembly of Major Illuminati, well organized; an assembly of Minor Illuminati answering perfectly to our goals; a large and beautiful Masonic Lodge, and two beautiful Minerval churches.
In Thebes [Freising], there is also a Minerval church.60
In Megara [Landsberg] as well.
Likewise in Burghausen.
In Straubing as well.
And soon in Corinth [Regensburg].
We bought a house [in Munich], and it goes so well, by judicious measure, that the people, not only do not make a commotion [p. 8] but speak of us with regard, because we go openly every day to the house, just as we infiltrate the [masonic] Lodges. It is certain that we have quickly gained a lot in this city.
In this house, there is a good collection of natural history and instruments of physics, as well as a library, which members add to all the time.
The garden is used for botanical research.
Our Order has procured for the Brethren all the learned journals. They draw the attention of the prince and the citizens on certain abuses, and with these printed materials, which obstructs all the monkish forces, we can obtain much success.
We have organized the whole Lodge according to our system and broke completely with [the Grand Lodge of] Berlin.
We have not only halted the action of the Rosicrucians, but have even rendered their name contemptible.
We are in negotiations for a close alliance with the Lodge —— at ——,61 and with the Grand Lodge of Poland.
Progress
b) of the Order in Greece, in the political domain, after a year.
(Likewise from the hand of Zwack)
1
As a result of the intervention of the Brethren, the Jesuits have been excluded from all professorships, and the University of Ingolstadt [p. 9] is completely cleansed of them.
2
The duchess [dowager] would like to organize the Institute of Cadets completely in the manner indicated by our Order; the Institute is under the surveillance of the Order, all the professors are members of the Order, five of them are very well-established, and all the pupils will soon become adepts in the Order.
3
On the recommendation of the Brethren, Pylades62 has been appointed treasurer of the Ecclesiastical Council and the Order has at its disposal church revenue.
4
And by lending this money to our —— and ——, we have reversed their domestic mismanagement and liberated them from the usurers.
5
In this way, we have come to the aide of our Brethren.
6
All the members who are priests, we have equipped them well with benefice [church property], parishioners and advisory positions.
[p. 10]
7
By the grace of our intercession, Arminius and Cortez63 were instituted as professors in Ephesus.
8
All our young men have obtained, through our intermediaries, bursaries to attend this University.
9
Through the recommendation of some members of our Order who are employed at the Court [in Munich], two of our young men have departed on a voyage; they went to Rome.
10
The German schools are entirely under the direction of our Order, and have no other administrators than our Brethren.
11
The Society of Benevolence is also under our management.
12
A large number of members of the Order, who are found in the Dicasteries, have obtained, by the grace of the Order, salaries and compensations.
13
We have placed members of the Order in four ecclesiastical chairs.
14
Within a short time, we will draw all the young priests of the Bartholomew Institution to us; hence the establishment is affected [p. 11] and, in this way, we have a great opportunity to provide all of Bavaria with superficial [clever] priests.
15
We also intend and hope to go after another priestly institution.
16
Even at this time when the Jesuits desire to destroy the ecclesiastical council, we have, through intermediaries of the institutions of the Order, by our tireless effort, our ensnarement of diverse ——, by ——, succeeded; that not only has the ecclesiastical council been strengthened, but that all the revenue which the Jesuits had administered in Bavaria — such as the Mission Institute, the prosperous charities, the domicile of the Exercitium and the coffers of the converts — have been entrusted with this council, as well as the funds for school and university, which already provide employment and transportation. On this subject the leading Illuminati have convened six meetings, and some of them have gone a few nights without sleep. Among them, there is——, and——.
2 Franz Anton von Massenhausen (1758-1815), one of the original five members of the Illuminati, as is obvious by the date of initiation.
3 Maximilian Balthasar Ludwig Edler von Merz
4 Franz Xaver Carl Wolfgang Zwack [or Zwackh] zu Holzhausen (1756-1843) was Weishaupt’s closest confidant; his residence at Landshut was the source of the present first volume of the Original Writings of the Illuminati.
5 Jakob Anton Hertel (1747-1828)
6 Franz von Paula Hoheneicher (1753-1844)
7 Franz Benno Michl (1750-1828)
8 Franz Paul Edler von Berger
9 Ferdinand Maria Baader (1747-97)
10 Thomas Maria Baron De Bassus (1742-1815)
11 Franz Georg Lang (1742-90); the “Illuminati” attribute probably means that he was initiated immediately as either an Illuminatus minor or an Illuminatus major.
12 Friedrich Christian Müller; it is not clear what the precise meaning of “Received” is.
13 Anton Will (1756-1827); insinuated as a Minerval.
14 Michael Wendelin Ernst (b. 1751)
15 Joseph Maria Lucas Gerstner (1745-1828)
16 Thaddäus Klüg (1751-1831)
17 Joseph Barth (1760-1819)
18 Ernst Leopold Troppanegro
19 Alois Ignaz Baierhammer [or Bayrhammer]
20 Franz Ruedorfer (1748-1825)
21 Michael Adrian Riedel (d. 1819)
22 Thomas von Pfest
23 Ferdinand Maximilian Baron von Meggenhofen (1760-90)
24 His identity is unknown. A more famous initiate would later take the same alias (Duke Ernst II von Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg) when he was initiated in 1783, but the only clues we have as to the identity of this particular “Timoleon” is that he was a Cobenzl court valet in Eichstätt; see Hermann Schüttler, Die Mitglieder des Illuminatenordens 1776-1787/93 (Munich: Ars Una 1991), p. 104.
25 Ludwig Felix Johann Nepomuk Baron von Ecker (1757-1826)
26 Ferdinand Maria Bauer
27 Identity unknown; two other members with the alias “Remus” – Joseph Friedrich Baron von Retzer (1754-1824) and Count Emerich Stadion-Thannhausen (1766-1817) – are known, but both their date’s of initiation didn’t occur in August 1778.
28 Philipp Anton Baron von Redwitz (b. 1751); “Susp.” means suspended.
29 Unknown; there is no member in any lists (Schüttler’s included) with an alias corresponding to this – even in the section (Schüttler, op. cit., pp. 189-95) reserved for lone aliases that haven’t been matched to a name.
30 Schleitheim (Schlotheim?)
31 Ludovicus Bavarius=Michael Lori (1728-1808); and he was indeed “kicked out” of the Order.
32 Anton Drexel [or Drexl] (1753-1830)
33 Joseph Laurentius Erdmann Gebhart Mandatarius Socher (1755-1834)
34 Georg Conrad Sauer (1754-97)
35 Raimundus Lullus= Ludwig Fronhofer (1746-1800)
36 Christian von Groggen
37 Count Ludwig Alexander von Savioli-Corbelli (1742-1811)
38 Johann Georg von Kapfinger [or Karstinger]
39 Johann Linde
40 Felix Eisele
41 Eckel
42 Johann Nepomuk von Krenner (1759-1812)
43 Identity unknown
44 Alois Duschl
45 Franz Seraph Strixner
46 Count Maximilian Joseph Baron von Montgelas (1759-1838)
47 Constantin Marchese di Costanzo (1738-1800)
48 Erasmus von Werner
49 Count Anton von Spaur (1742-99)
50 Count Maximilian Josef von Lodron (b. 1757)
51 Beda Mayr (1742-94)
52 Identity unknown. Schahar. is, of course, Schaharimeh (September) in the Yazdegerd calendar.
53 Franz de Paula Winterhalter
54 Nepomuk Schiessl
55 Friedrich Baron von Schröckenstein (1753-1808)
56 Gässler
57 Franz Paul de Dufresne (b. 1748)
58 Franz Josef von Gaza (1739-1805)
59 Count Johann Martin zu Stolberg-Rossla (1728-95)
60 These “Minerval churches” were sometimes referred to as “Academies.” The backbone of the Order of the Illuminati itself, the insignia of this class prominently featured Minerva’s owl of wisdom; hymns to Athena/Minerva were even recited at each gathering. (A whole chapter is devoted to the Minervals, in Perfectibilists: The 18th Century Bavarian Order of the Illuminati.)
61 The suppression of the Lodge name and location was in the original.
62 Joseph Karl von Pettenhofen (1754?–1784)

46 Comments to Some Original Writings of the Order of the Illuminati (title - p. 11)
Terry,
Many thanks for what you are doing on this site. I have long sought English translations of Weishaupt’s writings, and was lamenting their non-existence about a month ago to a group of Masonic researchers. Found your blog and this site quite by accident, and am looking forward to your new book.
Just thought I’d let you know you’re not laboring in obscurity.

Thanks.
I was originally planning on having more translated and posted by now, but alas the preparation for the book release has taking much of my time.
I actually saw that post you did (on their non-existence), by accident, and was trying to find it again, with no luck. I would have dropped by the site and announced the project.
It is my sincere hope that when you publish this work you make every possible effort source and document everything.
The whole of Illuminati is littered with incredibly poor scholarship with the worst example being authors quoting each other and never going to an original source or document. If you can PHOTOCOPY every source document.
It is time we separate the the historians from the paranoid conspiracy theorists.
It is a dead serious scholarly work with way over 1,000 endnotes, referencing the original documents themselves and the world’s foremost academic experts on the subject from the last 200 years. Only the facts; the research that the English speaking world have been oblivious. There are history professors in Germany and France who have gotten their PhDs from dissertations on the Bavarian Illuminati! Over there it is a respectable field - as is the entire topic of secret societies during the Enlightenment.
is this a really something exist or just it’s a fiction?
are you going to complete the translation work?
@Marco
Yes. Eventually.
The preparation for the book launch has taken up most of my free time.

Who was Zwack, and what is his background? In view of our family’s last name I have more than passing interest. Thank you.
Franz Xaver Carl Wolfgang Zwack zu Holzhausen (1756 Regensburg, Germany – 1843 Mannheim, Germany)
Sometimes it was spelled Zwackh. He was the right-hand man of Weishaupt. He studied law at the University of Ingolstadt (1774-76), and was a Weishaupt’s pupil. He became a lawyer, a tax collector, was on the Bavarian privy council in Munich, was the head of the lotto for a time, and was even on the censorship council.
In fact, the “Original Writings” on this very page (for which I am continuing to translate), were discovered in his home in Landshut in 1786; as it says on the title page itself: “FOUND AT THE RESIDENCE OF ZWACK, FORMER COURT COUNCILLOR, DURING THE DOMICILIARY SEARCH EXECUTED AT LANDSHUT, ON THE 11TH AND 12TH OF OCTOBER 1786″
He escaped in time before being arrested, and immediately found refuge at the court of Prince Frederic III
von Salm-Kyrburg (1745-1794). After the Bavarian Elector died, he was employed in the Bavarian government once again.
His brother was also an initiate of the Illuminati: Philipp Simon von Zwack [Zwackh] (1766 – 1839).
Very interesting read, hope to get to read more about your research and as well your book. Keep posting.
Kind Regards
Doktoras

I do not profess to know the entire history of the Illuminati. However, as a teacher of logic and rhetoric as they are applied (or disregarded, as the case may be) in legal argument and, subsequently, in the rules of law that follow, I am fascinated by topics like the Illuminati because these types of subjects frequently reveal just how flawed and potentially misleading information can be, even if the inaccuracy is not intentional.
With that preface in mind, here’s my questions/concerns about how you are presenting these so-called “original” documents:
Assuming that you have translated these papers accurately with the goal of 100 % truth in your substantive content, will you fully explain to your readers what these translations supposedly reveal about the Illuminati? And, furthermore, why these revelations are so dangerous to our society today?
To most people in the world, this topic is not well known. Like a specious argument, however, it has a provocative quality partly because of the secret society angle. I think writers have an obligation to provide their readers with sufficient historical background and context so that the translations will be clear and unequivocal in light of the circumstances that were existing at the time. If you do not provide that information, then your readers are receiving information that is only half-transparent and equally secretive. In many instances this result is more dangerous than if the documents had never been translated in the first place.
See the about page for starters. But there’s 800+ pages yet to go, and the revelations will become increasingly noteworthy, and self explanatory. The “Original Writings” are the correspondences confiscated by the Bavarian authorities in 1786 and 1787. They are authentic proof of conspiratorial activities on the part of the secret society: directives and recommendations to underlings, and admission of subversion by the Order as whole. They have never been entirely translated into English from start to finish. Excerpts have been reproduced throughout the years, but that is all.

Avete!
Thank you so much for this Great Articles you have published. by the way what are the connections of modern Illuminati Order? are they direct lineage from adam weishaupt bavarian illuminati? how about the Orden Illuminati of Gabriel Lopez de Rojas?
“what are the connections of modern Illuminati Order?”
First tell me what you think is the “modern Illuminati.”
Re: Gabriel Lopez de Rojas
Any one can play act. That is what Masonry is, isn’t it? Since the early 1700s Masons and other secret societies have constructed various myths about themselves solely to entice and initiate adherents. They can claim all sorts of things and dupe many otherwise intelligent people, but most of it does not stand up to historical scrutiny.
As for people claiming descent from the Illuminati, I would say that if they had an owl as their symbol (or the most prominent of their symbols), then I’d seriously take a look at their claims. The owl of Minerva was part of the seal of the Illuminati, and their Minerval Academies were the backbone and very reason for the Order’s existence.
April 22, 2009
I see, thank you so much for your reply. many illuminati order existing online are they authentic? or just a psuedo illuminati.
I don’t believe Illuminati claimants are any more authentic than, say, the various groups out there claiming descent from the Knights Templar. In the former case, there is no proof that they survived in any tangible way past the 1790s; in the latter, there’s no evidence they continued after the 14th century.
It’s one thing to claim lineage (directed toward those to whom you want to initiate), but it’s another altogether to be able to prove such assertions.
These Illuminati claimants, what to they offer as forensic documentary evidence? Bring it on - I’d be willing to take a look if they have any.
July 8, 2009
I have spoken to a friend of mine who claims that she has received letters from the Illuminati wanting her to join them. She has just been accepted into Holloway college in Surrey she is about 40 and thinks it might be a joke, but she says that they are watching her and also intimate details they have on her. Is there any advice I can give her please.
Thanks
July 8, 2009
Also to just add on my last comments, ‘they’ claim that they are watching her not that she can see them. Thanks
> thinks it might be a joke
It is.
The Illuminati are dead; have been for 200 years.
August 12, 2009
Have you found anything in your translations about contingency plans for the continuation of the order in the event of the illuminati being exposed?
The takeover of Reading Societies and Masonic Lodges allowed the Illuminati to continue even after the suppression of 1784-87. One can therefore trace their continued activities in these associations as well as the more revolutionary societies such as the Jacobin Clubs. This is largely what my book has documented.
More translations coming soon. There are many instances in the Original Writings where Weishaupt in particular promises to continue the enterprise in the face of persecution, even to the point of emerging more stronger than before.

check one for carl Fagan lol Thank you for your hard work and effort, DONT GIVE UP
August 14, 2009
Hi there again, I have been researching some interesting things concerning the Founders/Donors of the CFR and a few other organizations and how their lineage actually weaves back to some of the same names reported in the early years of this secret society. Do you have any input here?
Which names in particular are you thinking about?
September 4, 2009
Hi Terry, I have a question for you; will you be publishing your translations of the original Illuminati papers in bookform in the future? Perhaps as a “Vol. II” of PERFECTIBILISTS? That would be ferfect in my opinion, since your work is the only serious one in english out there on the Illuminati.
Thanks.
Perhaps. I will certainly be offering a pdf version after (whenever) the translation is complete. Print on demand is another option I guess.
September 7, 2009
Hey there, i was wondering if you have any knowledge of Adam Weishaupt founding or funding the founding of any of the central banks of europe?
Weishaupt was a professor, a philosopher, and a dreamer; not a banker, a financier nor particularly adept with money. Weishaupt did not found or fund any bank, “central” or otherwise.
September 7, 2009
I look forward to the PDF version of the Illuminati papers, and if there is a print on demand, I will definitely buy a copy!
September 8, 2009
SO, is there any proof that the rothschilds commissioned adam weishaupt to organize the illuminati in 1773?
Every society, secret or otherwise, has a charter or list of stated goals and objectives, what were the illuminaties?
That would be William Guy Carr’s fantasy land. He made it up all by himself, wrote it in a book, offered no proof or citation, and let his gullible readership lap it up and further disseminate it (without first checking if it’s true or not). The Rothschilds are not on any of the multiple lists - I’ve looked - nor would you expect them to be.
The patriarch at the time was (nearly) an illiterate Jew. He lived in the ghetto. The only “pull” Amschel had in the 1770s was being able to claim association with William of Hesse-Kassel by selling the latter some rare medals; even in the 1780s, he was still stuck in the Jewish ghetto of Frankfurt and had only managed to establish himself as an antique, coin and medal dealer. Weishaupt, by contrast, was a professional academic, a professor and an aspiring philosopher - as “bourgeois” as they come. You would never expect the two to even cross paths, let alone associate with one another. (And, no, Weishaupt was not a Jew.)
The only reason Carr had made up that stuff about Rothschild and Weishaupt, was a desire to link two of the most famous targets of conspiracy theorists - the Illuminati and the Rothschilds. The anti-Caholic bigots, too, try their hardest to conflate the Jesuits with the Illuminati. To the monolithic conspiracy theorist (one conspiracy to rule them all), everything has to be neat and tidy. Most times they are not even versed in real history, and are totally ignorant of standard and specialized works. What they lack in knowledge, however, hardly dissuades them. The holes are filled in with rhetoric and fabrications - and damn be the sanctity of the actual historical record!
A historian could care less about what the facts bear out, just as long as they are followed and reported on accurately (with precise citations) and without prejudice. If Rothschild had any connection whatsoever with Weishaupt - communicated with, or financed and enabled - it would have been admitted and transparently written about long ago. We wouldn’t need a Carr, for instance, to fabricate the connection for us. Even if you believe somehow that established historians routinely suppress certain unpalatable information, the primary material can still be consulted by anyone - Rothschild is nowhere to be found.

Great! That was highly informative. Now, to the second question I had posted, what were the stated goals of the illuminati or their charter?

So how accurate is this??
On a scale of 1 to 10: about minus 9. I’ve read fairy tales that are more historically accurate. In nearly every sentence - certainly every paragraph - things are made-up wholesale, just plain incorrect, or exaggerated. To Andrew Hitchcock calumny and libel are virtues.

So when you say that they society is dead, what is it exactly that you mean? You do not believe that it exists to this day in any way?
Dead, as in defunct; a ceasing of activity, in its original form, and in subsequent efforts to extend it.
Yes, it’s a belief. A belief based upon available evidence - until someone convinces me otherwise.

William G. Carr, Anthony Sutton, Gary Allen, Nesta Webster, Emmanuel Josephson are bonified researchers and have told the truth. Masons above 33rd degree and Illuminati that exists today, are liars and know that they worship Lucifer. We know the truth. Certainly the one world government established in Copenhagan and the One World religion established under the Charter for Compassion, have started the process. Israel has recalled its ambassadors, and the evil of this world that have I mentioned is but under 10 years of reaching its eternal fate as decided by Jesus Christ upon his return.
For the record William Carr has irrefutable historical research and only a mindless, biased, Writer would give the opinion that he made up the truth. The time is short for the Illuminati, Masons, jesuits and Zionist. Jesuits designed masons in 1717, married the Freemasonry and Illuminati in 1782 at the Congress of Wilhelmsbad. John Robison in 1798 wrote about the truth in the “Proofs of a Conspiracy.” William T Still has details in his book….the grand plan and the ascended Masters of the underworld are lying and are weak. Once the NWO takes over its temporary agenda, it will fail. The Masons will divide and the World revolution will fail

The Illuminati is alive and well, as you can google the 13 Illuminati families and see for yourselves that the families are not dead. The person that says that they are is lying or a very poor researcher. For others, do the research or live in darkness.
Well the internet allows all people to claim anything and everything - pseudo history reigns supreme and is accessible to the masses at the touch of a finger.
Oh well. At least you found me, didn’t you? Stick around for awhile and you can be exposed to my own research.
We speak here of the historical Illuminati of Bavaria and central Europe, started wholly by professor Weishaupt and four students in Ingolstadt in 1776, which lasted until the death of the second head of the Order J. J. C. Bode in 1793. The real Illuminati; no santa clauses, elfs or mirages, and no amorphously defined bogeymen. I won’t pull your leg and I promise to provide you with all the evidence (citations and sources) as precisely, as scholarly and transparent a manner as humanly possible.
In short - no bullshit.

I want to congratulate you on a job well done. I bought your book and its the best piece of serious research on the subject to date. Even Stauffer didn’t provide as many factual details backed up with sources!
Years ago, I started looking for info on what might really be going on behind the scenes in the world. Of course, I read many conspiracies of the NWO and the Illuminati. But your site was one of the few that kept to the facts and made your personal beliefs evident. I thank you for shining the torch of truth in this world of darkness.
I look forward to any other works you may publish in the future, whether it is related to the Illuminati or not.
Peace be with.

I appreciate it. Thanks so much!
Stauffer wrote a hundred years ago, and, in truth, only one chapter was wholly devoted to the history of the Order in Bavaria. A lot of work was carried on in the interim, mostly in Europe. A monograph on the Illuminati - in the English language, and sticking to the facts - was thus long overdue.

What about Giusseppe Mazini, his protege Albert Pike, the Young America lodges Mazini set up which morphed into the Knights of the Golden Circle of which John Wilkes Booth was a member. Didn’t Giuseppe Mazini take over from good old Spartacus Weishaupt?
There was no Illuminati connection to the Mazzini whatsoever. The Illuminati proper went defunct in the 1790s. Perhaps Filipo Buonarroti had a direct link, but not his rival Mazzini.
That Mazzini “took over the Illuminati” is wishful propaganda on the part of monolithic conspiracy theorists. Repeated again and again, just because it sounds cool!

Fascinating website!
The practicality of promoting the woman
[p. 6]
would be to procure a real Order of gold; that is to say, in an advantageous manner, we provide protection and wait for them to obtain new secrets, all the while providing voluptuous pleasure for the Freemasons.
If i understand this correctly.
The Illuminati wanted to use women to obtain secrets from freemasons?
Correct. And as whores (e.g. “voluptuous pleasure”).
